Gareth Southgate has
turned to technology in a bid to keep England's chances of winning Euro 2020 on
track. The Euros have been put on hold until next summer due to the coronavirus
crisis that has forced all top level football to be suspended until further
notice.
But this has not stopped
Southgate from continuing with his preparations for the tournament, even though
it would not kick off for another 15 months. The Three Lions boss has been
spending his time in lockdown watching countless hours of video footage of
England's opponents.
Southgate asked members
of the FA's technical team to send him as much film as possible on rival teams
and players to his £4m, Grad I luxury mansion in Swinsty, on the outskirts of
Harrogate.
With St George's Park
closed due to the pandemic and set to be offered to the NHS for possible use in
the battle against the virus, Southgate has been confined to his home office
for long spells. Football fans can book England Euro Cup

But he has been
determined to use the time to study the strengths and weaknesses of the teams
England will face in the group stages - as well as the elite European sides he
will have to outwit if he is to conquer Europe next summer.
Source report
A source said: "He
has used the lockdown as an exercise to focus on certain projects, and one of
them is to watch hours of footage of teams, players and the elite teams standing
between England and winning the Euros."
England have been drawn
against Croatia and the Czech Republic in the group stages, as well as one more
side from the play-off games still to be decided.
But Southgate knows the
real test of England's credentials will come against the likes of France,
Holland, Belgium and Spain, and has been keen to do as much homework as
possible on these four powerhouses.
Southgate, who has also
spent time running and walking his dogs, is expected to take a 30 per cent wage
cut this week.
The England boss will
give up almost £1m of his £3m-a-year salary as part of the FA's attempt to cope
with the financial impact of the pandemic.
