British and Irish Lions Tour: Welsh Rugby Union only country among Six Nations to reply to Agustin Pichot email
Agustin Pichot has revealed the Welsh
Rugby Union is the only organization from the Six Nations countries to reply to
an email he sent, outlining his proposals for the game if he is elected
chairman of World Rugby.

The former Argentine scrum-half is standing against ex-England skipper
Bill Beaumont for the top job having served as his vice-chairman of the
governing body. Entering the final week of
campaigning, Beaumont and Pichot are lobbying to win the 11 remaining swing
votes.
Pichot has the support of the SANZAAR
unions, but he revealed to the Daily Mail his email proposals did not even
receive a reply from five of the Six Nations unions.
"I would like to talk to each
union,' said Pichot. "I sent a personal note to every
country and I haven't had any replies from some of the CEOs.
"I only received one email asking
me about the future of the game from the Six Nations unions that was Wales and
I think that's poor. Every CEO should be responsible for learning what is best
for the game, even if they don't support you."
Part of Pichot's plans to revolutionize
the game is to go global with the British and Irish Lions if he becomes the new
chairman of World Rugby next month. He would
instigate talks about taking the Lions to the Americas as well as their
traditional tours of South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
"People think I don't like
tradition, but I speak to Lions players like Brian O'Driscoll and it's a great
product," said Pichot. "I love it. There is still room
for the Lions. It is a traditional thing but we can still add a modern look to
it.
"I would use the Lions on a more
worldwide scale. I would like to see that brand travel even further. They would
be very popular in North and South America but that's a conversation to have
with the CEO of the Lions."
Crusaders to make
redundancies as coronavirus crisis bites
Super Rugby giants the Crusaders have
been forced into making staff redundant in the wake of the coronavirus
pandemic. Stuff NZ report staff from several areas of
the business have been told they will be let go.
While Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge
would not specify which staff members would be let go, it's understood those
working in medical, academy, logistics and media liaison roles were most at
risk of losing their positions.
Mansbridge said in a statement to
Stuff that the Crusaders, like many organizations in New Zealand, were not
immune to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.
"Unfortunately, this has meant we
have had to make changes to our operational model, which has impacted on the
roles of some staff," Mansbridge said. "We
would, however, like to acknowledge the immense contribution to our club from these
individuals. “This has been an incredibly painful and difficult process for
those involved and we hope you will respect their privacy."
World Rugby to
investigate allegations against council member
World Rugby chiefs are poised to
investigate newspaper allegations made against the chairman of the Fijian RU
and council member Francis Kean. A report in
the Sunday Times made allegations of “rampant homophobia” against Kean while he
was in charge of the Fiji prison service.
“World Rugby notes allegations in the
UK Sunday Times about Fiji Rugby union chairman Ratu Vilikesa Bulewa Francis Kean
and takes the nature of these allegations extremely seriously,” said a World
Rugby spokesman.
“Rugby is a sport built on strong and
inclusive values and World Rugby does not in any way condone abusive or
discriminatory behaviour as enshrined within its bylaws.
“It would be inappropriate to comment
further until we have discussed the matter fully with the Fiji Rugby Union and
have established all the facts.”
Kean was last week nominated for the
World Rugby executive committee having been seconded last week by the French
rugby federation, whose president Bernard Laporte is running mate to Bill
Beaumont’s bid to be re-elected as chairman for a second term.
