Euro 2021: An England line-up with Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson and Aston Villa star Jack Grealish
Gareth Southgate has another year to assess exactly what his
best side is. At present, he has a very youthful England side at his
disposal, with many at the start of their international careers. Euro 2021 fans

Goalkeeper
Jordan Pickford has been Southgate’s first-choice goalkeeper
since 2017 and was a hero at the last World Cup. But his form for Everton
has been erratic and questionable for some time, so there’s an increased
feeling the no.1 shirt for England is well and truly up for grabs.
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has done himself
no harm. If he continues in the same vein of form next season he’ll give
himself a real chance to shine on the national scene. Henderson said his big
dream is to replace David De Gea between the sticks at Old Trafford.
Defenders
Leicester’s Ben Chilwell is the no.1 choice at left-back, but
behind him is a much-improved Luke Shaw at Manchester United, while Bukayo Sako
has enjoyed a breakthrough season on the left side for Arsenal.
Fikayo Tomori has enjoyed a productive maiden Premier League
campaign at Chelsea, and will certainly be in contention for one of the two
central defensive roles.
Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire is a dead cert for
one of those positions, with his partner at the 2018 World Cup, John Stones,
unlikely to feature unless he pursues a move away from Manchester City and
starts to play regularly.
The versatile Joe Gomez, who can operate at both centre-back
and right-back, has been brilliant for title-chasing Liverpool this season and
he’s expected to go from strength to strength.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is establishing himself as one of the
best in the world and is only 21, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another star
for the future. Euro 2021 fans can book England Euro Cup Tickets on our website on exclusively

Midfield
There’s a myth that Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and
Leicester’s James Maddison are too similar in style to play alongside each
other for their country. I expect the pair to debunk that myth as they are two
very different players playing for different clubs with contrasting styles.
They can complement each other.
Phil Foden needs to playing a lot more regularly for
Manchester City to get anywhere near this side next season, while Tottenham’s
Harry Winks is a dependable and safe option. He will face competition from
Declan Rice, who has had an indifferent season for struggling West Ham, as has
Dele Alli at Tottenham.
Attack
Raheem Sterling continues to get better and better and will
be integral to England’s chances of success playing on the left-hand side of
the forward line. Tottenham striker Harry Kane was in jeopardy of owing to
injury, and owing to the postponement he will surely play a key role for his
country.
Like Kane, Marcus Rashford has had his injury problems and
while he’s been very prolific for Manchester United this season the former
will, in all likelihood, get the nod over his rival.
Callum Hudson-Odoi is another exciting prospect and a very
plausible option on the right side of a front three but is unlikely to force
Borussia Dortmund wonder kid, Jadon Sancho, out of that position.
